Copyright Act Of1976 Question?
Posted by Copyright Law Enquirer on July 10th, 2009 at 10:23pm
i watched a video on the Copyright Act of 1976. in the video it said Copyright is denied to the government(or government info).
so im guessing this means the government cant make any copyrights.
so does that mean that if the government would take control of a business that any copyright by that business would be void or what? since it is government own?
or am i wrong?
Under copyright act

The government itself cannot own a copyright. However, government owned entities can.
When the IRS, for example, was owning and operating the “Mustang Ranch” brothel in Nevada, the copyrights on their logo’s etc were still valid, and continued to be licensed to companies that sold “Mustang Ranch” materials.
Public Universitiies, as another example, all own the copyright to their logo’s, team mascots etc, and license them widely.
