Could I Store Movies With A Copyright On My Personal Website?

July 15th, 2009 at 10:32pm Under website copyright

I want to store all my DVDs, 752 discs worth on the space of my personal website. If I don’t have any links to these files and they are just stored at my domain for my own storage purposes can I legally do this? Is it violating any copyright laws?
Similarly, could I store the same thing on a website that hosts data (video) files that aren’t shared?

How Could A Website Designer Break The Copyright, Designs And Patents Act 1988?

July 15th, 2009 at 10:23pm Under copyright act

The copyright, designs and Patents Act basically ensures you dont use other people’s things without permission.
So the website could be using a logo, an extract from a book, a picture or a game without permission of the copyright holder – inmost cases the person/company that created it.
Another way – slightyl more nerdy is a breahc of the patent and design element, in which codes or encoding is used which has been made/designed and is not open source or free to use like HTML.

Are There Any Alternatives To Copyright Music? Could I Upload It On Myspace So There Is A Record Of It?

July 15th, 2009 at 10:26am Under music copyright

Would that hold up in court? I heard google keeps records of everything in gmail, so if i emailed the song they would have a record of it. It’s the poor man’s copyright in a digital age, but I am wondering if it would hold up in court. I don’t think it would but that is why i am asking. It is almost 50 dollars per song to register now so for an album that would be too expensive right now. Thanks.

By copying something covered by the act without permission or meeting one of the exemptions (fair use). Do you have something more specific you need to know?

Music Copyright Issues In Youtube? When Did They Come Into Effect, And Could I Get Suspended?

July 9th, 2009 at 04:26pm Under music copyright

I made a video on youtube about 2 months ago, but i was never really happy with the video quality so i decided to remake it.
However, when i went to load up the new version it rejected it because it said the music was under copyright from a third party so i couldnt use it. But it was exactly the same audio as i used before, and it accepted it fine then!
When did the copyright thing start, and could i get suspended over the original vid??
