July 17th, 2009 at 04:26am Under music copyright

A friend of mine wants to post some of his own songs on a website and on You Tube but we are afraid of someone stealing the music. Should we try to get each song copyrighted? It seems like it can end up costing quite a bit

Online Trademark Infringement: Are We In The Clear?

July 16th, 2009 at 04:27pm Under trademark law

We were recently asked to cease and desist selling and using the logos of a product we sold on our website. We removed the product from the website and all pages that had any mention of it.
Currently, various search engines have the site cached and our webmaster has the links redirecting to similar products. Keeping in mind that there are no logos or mention of the product on our website, is redirecting current search engine listings to similar products a violation of US trademark laws? Please list sources if possible.

If I Record A Video Of Me Playing Runescape And Post It Online, Am I Violating A Copyright Law?

July 16th, 2009 at 04:27pm Under copyright law

I was playing Runescape and I found that a macroer was abusing a bug in Jagex’s system to get lots of genie random events. I shot a video of it with Hypercam2 and I put it on google video so I could chow people and find out what was going on with this guy. I just recieved an email today that says the video has been taken down because it is a copyright violation. I did not add music or anything. I only shot the video, and put it online without adding or taking anything away from it. Can I file a complaint to google about this or is it against copyright law to make a video of runescape without Jagex’s permission? I have dozens of other Runescape videos online but none of them have been taken down for copyright law. I am very confused and wish someone could enlighten me about this. Thank you.

Is Posting An Unauthorised Translation Online An Infringement Of Copyright Law?

July 10th, 2009 at 10:25am Under copyright law

Let’s say I like an interesting article in a French newspaper so much, I decide to translate it into English and post it in my online blog so as to share it with other readers.
Do I infringe the copyright law this way? If I quote the original source alongside the translated version, will this sidestep the law?
P/S It’s only a scenario. I haven’t attempted anything like that.
