How Itunes Purchases Copyright Music?

Hi every one my name is “chirag”. Well my quiestion is, suppose if “chirag” is an artist with some number of music copy rights on his name, then how come apple inc’s itunes manages to procure these copyright music and club it in itunes and then on keep it selling at $0.99 each? Is it legal to sell copy right music on itunes?
