Im Starting A Company And Want To Trademark The Name And Copyright My Website. What Is The Cheapest Route?

Im starting a natural childbirth/parenting information company. We will also be holding seminars and have a product line. I want to trademark the name and copyright my website. What is the cheapest route? Is there any thing else I should do to protect myself? Thanks

Don’t worry about the attorney’s and such – they’re expensive. Just register yourself with your states Secretary of State. The same place you apply for vendors license’s, corp doc’s etc. That’s for a state filling. If you’ll be taking it to the national level you should go to the US Patent and Trademarks site and they have all the info you’ll need. Just be sure to do a thorough search (and this is where the attorney’s do make sense) so you don’t step on anyone’s toe’s.
Will your seminars be locally only or moving into other states? If you’re going into other states do the national route.

Copyright is pretty much free. You just have to stick a “Copyright (C) 2008 — Your Name” thing on the page and on all your material.
Trade-mark requires registration and the last time I checked it was under $500 (that’s in Canada though).
