As to works published or registered prior to January 1, 1978, renewal registration is optional after 28 years but does provide certain legal advantages." This means that the author will own the material until your grandchildren have children. This doesn't mean that you cannot incorporate the material into your blog or website, if you properly site the website and quote it then you should not have a problem.
